entry #6 Why Everyone Thinks They’re a Good Driver
If you ask most people if they’re a good driver, they’ll say yes. Nobody really thinks they’re the problem, it’s always other drivers. But if that were true, driving wouldn’t feel so stressful all the time. In a place like Phoenix, it’s easy to notice how common bad habits are. People speed, ignore signals, and switch lanes without thinking, and most of them don’t even realize they’re doing anything wrong.
A big reason for that is overconfidence and impatience. Driving becomes routine, so people stop paying full attention. Small things like checking your phone, not using a blinker, or rolling through stops don’t seem like a big deal, but they add up. On top of that, everyone is in a rush. Waiting at a light or being behind someone going the speed limit feels annoying, so people take risks just to save a few seconds.
This isn’t just one city, it happens everywhere. That’s what makes it important. Risky driving has become normal, even though it can go wrong fast. Being a good driver isn’t about thinking you are better than others, it’s about staying focused, being patient, and making safer choices. If more people were honest about their habits, driving would probably feel a lot less chaotic and way safer.
ohh this is exactly what i think after hearing my girlfriend say im a really good driver after like 3 accidents it just shows how everyone thinks they’re good even when they’re not. i agree with you, people don’t realize the little things they do and it just makes driving worse for everyone
ReplyDeleteHey Shawn! I love this topic because I think it is important to talk about people thinking they are good drivers when in reality they are anywhere close. Impatience is such a good explanation to why people shouldn't think they are good drivers because it is so common and it causes so many problems on the road!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, you’re right. Everyone in Phoenix swears they’re the “good driver,” but somehow every freeway feels like your putting your life on the line. It’s wild how many people are out here driving like they’re late to the birth of their own child… every single day.
ReplyDeleteI really liked reading your post! This is really relatable, especially living in Arizona, where driving feels very chaotic. I like how you pointed out that most people think they are good drivers, and I'm gonna be honest, it has me thinking if I am as good as I think I am. I do agree, though, that those small habits, like using your blinker and not checking your phone, are really important. Great post!
