This past NFL season gave us a lot to talk about but one of the most exciting storylines wasn’t just a team, it was an individual performance that helped define the year. Jaxon Smith‑Njigba of the Seattle Seahawks didn’t just have a great season he had one of the best wide‑receiver seasons in recent NFL history.
I’ve been a big Ohio State Buckeyes fan for years, and I actually watched JSN play in college. Even then, it was clear he was going to be special. His route running, speed, and ability to make plays in crucial moments stood out every game. Watching him dominate at Ohio State, I knew the NFL was going to get something really special, and this season proved it.
From the moment the season started, JSN was consistently outstanding. Week after week he produced big numbers, earning multiple 100‑yard games and quickly becoming one of the most reliable offensive threats in the league. By midseason, he had already set the Seahawks’ single‑season receiving yards record, surpassing franchise great Steve Largent’s mark in just 11 games.
By the end of the regular season, he totaled 119 catches for 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns, leading the entire NFL in receiving yards and doing so with remarkable consistency. That kind of production didn’t just make headlines it earned him the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award, one of the highest individual honors in the league.
What made JSNs year even more impressive was how he stepped into the No. 1 role for the Seahawks without missing a beat. With other stars like DK Metcalf gone, he became the centerpiece of the offense, forming a strong connection with quarterback Sam Darnold and helping the team push deep into the postseason.
Being a big Ohio State fan, it was amazing to watch a player I followed in college dominate at the next level. Its proof that watching talent early really matters and JSN’s season shows how preparation, opportunity, and consistency can come together to make a player truly special. For anyone who loves football, it was a reminder of what elite play looks like and why great players often carry that excellence from college into the pros.
Shawn, first of all, great blog post! The way you talked about one of my favorite players, on my favorite team, was amazing! I am from Washington state, only moving here a few years ago, but I plan to return. Football is in my blood, so this was exciting to read. Jaxon Smith Njigba had such an amazing year and I couldn't be prouder of him, and the team. Thank you for providing a thoroughly detailed write up on him. Go Hawks!
